SPORT AND SCHOOL Sports are considered a very important part of school programs for many reasons. We started our work asking ourselves some questions:

WHY SPORT?

SPORT CAN IMPROVE OUR LIVES IN SO MANY WAYS

PLAYING SPORTS WILL KEEP YOU IN SHAPE AND PREVENT OBESITY

PEOPLE WHO PLAY SPORTS FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES

PEOPLE WHO PLAY SPORTS DO BETTER IN SCHOOL AND IN WORK

TEENS PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS OFTEN HAVE HIGH SELF-ESTEEM AND SEE THEMSELVES IN A POSITIVE LIGHT

SPORT GIVES CHILDREN A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND INTERACT

IT DEVELOPS SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY, SELF DISCIPLINE, PATIENCE, COURAGE, RESPECT OF RULES, COOPERATION, LOYALTY

IT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES

IT ALLOWS YOU TO EXPERIENCE SUCCESS BUT ALSO FAILURE

WHEN …AND …WHERE

Sport has been practiced since the second half of 700 B.C. when the Greeks organized the first Olympiad. Here’s a map of the place where games started. One of these places is Sybaris, where we live, THE MAGNA GRECIA.

PAST AND PRESENT

INTERVIEW TO GRANDPARENTS

WHAT DID YOU PLAY WITH WHO BOUGHT THE TOYS HOW MANY TOYS DID YOU HAVE? HOW DID THEY WORK? WHO DID YOU PLAY WITH? WHERE DID YOU PLAY? DID YOU HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PLAY?

OLD GAMES AND TOYS

CHILDREN FOUND OUT: THEIR GRANDPARENTS PLAYED ALMOST ALWAYS OUTDOORS, ON THE STREET IN THE COUNTRY THE CARS WERE VERY FEW PEOPLE KNEW EACH OTHER AND THERE WERE NOT SO MANY DANGERS

HIDE AND SEEK

PLAY THE ROPE

GRANDPARENTS ALSO PLAYED WITH SIMPLE OBJECTS AND TOYS THAT WERE OFTEN MADE BY THEMSELVES

TODAY LIFESTYLES HAVE PROFOUNDLY CHANGED. CHILDREN AND BOYS SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME PLAYING WITH VIDEOGAMES, COMPUTERS.

THEY MOVE VERY LITTLE SPEND HOURS WATCHING TV, EATING TOO MUCH AND GETTING FAT.

PUPILS OF THE FIFTH CLASSES HAVE ALSO INTERVIEWED THEIR FRIENDS OF THE FIRST CLASSES TO FIND OUT WHETHER CHILDREN AGED BETWEEN 6 AND 10 YEARS IN CORIGLIANO PERFORM PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

IN OUR SCHOOL SPORTS ARE VERY IMPORTANT, BUT THERE’S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL

PRIMARY SCHOOL SECONDARY SCHOOL 1 HOUR A WEEK 2 HOURS A WEEK GENERALIST TEACHERSSPECIALIST TEACHERS

IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL THEY USUALLY PLAY VOLLEYBALL, FOOTBALL, DO ATHLETICS.

BESIDES THE NORMAL HOURS INCLUDED IN THE CURRICULUM, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, ORGANIZED AND SUPPORTED ON THE INITIATIVE OF REGIONAL, LOCAL, NATIONAL AUTHORITIES AND ASSOCIATIONS, TAKE PLACE OUTSIDE THE TIME NORMALLY DEVOTED TO THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM, EVEN FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS. THESE COMPETITIONS PROGRESS FROM SCHOOL, LOCAL AND REGIONAL STAGES TO A FINAL NATIONAL LEVEL.

OUR SCHOOL HAS ALWAYS BEEN INVOLVED IN SPORTS EVENTS AND OUR STUDENTS ARE OFTEN WINNERS AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS
