More History About the Colors The American Flag is symbolic in many ways. The alternating red and whites stripes represent the 13 British colonies that settled in America. There are 7 red strips and 6 white strips for a total of 13 strips. Various historians have their thoughts on what the colors of the American Flag stand for. Some would argue that the colors on the American Flag represent philosophical values.

About the Stars……… There are 50 stars on the Flag. Each of these stars represents each of the 50 states that make up the United States of America. Each star is 5 pointed At the time a 5 pointed star was unheard of, the usual star was 6,7,or 8 points never 5

Flag Recognition First recognized in July 14, 1777 as our national symbol If the flag is flown 24 hrs. It should be illuminated 360 degrees The Church Pennant is the only pennant allowed to be flown above the national ensign

Things You Should Do……….. When outside as a civilian and the national anthem is playing you should  Come to attention.  Place your right hand over your heart.  Remove your hat with the right hand and hold it at the left shoulder while your right hand is over the heart.

Pledge of Allegiance “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

National Anthem Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
