7 Lyric Meanings hailed-to cheer, salute, or greet; welcome perilous-involving or full of grave risk or peril; hazardous; dangerous ramparts- a broad elevation or mound of earth raised as a fortification around a place and usually capped with a stone or earth parapet gallantly-brave, spirited, noble- minded, or chivalrous O’er- (over) Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
