Figure Drawing AS YOU COME IN, GRAB A STRING AND A HANDOUT OFF THE FRONT TABLE

Figure Proportions The human figure may be divided into four parts of equal length, namely: 1.From the top of the head to the arm-pit; 2.From the arm-pit to the middle of the body; 3.From the middle of the body to the knees; and 4.From the knees to the soles of the feet.

Other interesting proportions

The body… as shapes

Using the mannequin, draw two full page figures in your sketchbook Use two different poses

and more practice… Find one man and one woman (full length body) in different poses in a magazine. In Sharpie, draw simple shapes (ovals, circles, cones, etc) over the figure. Cut these out and glue them down in your sketchbook.

Next Pull out a full length photo from a magazine, paste it in your sketchbook, and draw the figure using shapes next to the photo.

Last Draw from a live model…Mrs. Madray!!!!

Let’s draw stick people! Stick figures use a combination of circles (for the head, chest, pelvis, hands and feet), and lines (for the neck, shoulders, legs and arms). This will help in training the eye to observe proportions, and expressions of figures in action.

The slant of the body and the way the lines of the limbs are marked determine the degree of any action. The placement of the head and proper tilt are just as important

Practice Select two full length images of people from a magazine. Using Sharpie, draw over the figures using lines for the limbs and circles for the joints.

In groups of 3-4 Each person will model a pose for 30 seconds. Draw each pose in your sketchbook. 
