Project full title: " Demonstration Network Of ground-based Remote Sensing Observations in support of the GMES Atmospheric Service "

Principal Objective ; connection to MACC-II To improve the quality and validation of the products delivered by the GMES Atmospheric Service (GAS), in casu MACC-II, using independent ground-based remote sensing data from the international Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC).  This requires research and developments to optimize the NDACC data delivery and data products for the purpose of supporting the quality assessments of the future GAS (MACC-II as the prototype). NOTE: Apart from some MAXDOAS data, none of the NORS data are already included in MACC-II VAL. So NORS is complementary to validation included in MACC-II NORS will aim at consistency with validation protocols and procedures defined in MACC-II (at management level and in VAL subproject) Validation reports generated in NORS will be connected to MACC-II Val Coordination with MACCII OBS/in-situ and EEA GISC project

NORS/NDACC map

NORS/NDACC targets Lidar, Microwave radiometer, FTIR, (MAX)DOAS, Dobson/Brewer, UV spectrometer O 3, NO 2, HCHO, CO, CH 4, aerosol extinction

Expected impacts Standard validation reports of MACC-II products using NORS data available on a regular basis via a Web server NORS is a demonstrator preparing the future  NORS connects to potential new NDACC stations outside Europe  it will be set up such as to expand to whole NDACC (all stations, all products relevant for GAS)  NDACC, next to its research vocation, will achieve a role as a service provider for validation of GAS products New methodologies to combine data from different sensors into new products will be developed and demonstrated (e.g., ozone profiles covering the total altitude range from ground to mesopause)
