Method acting and Stanislavski's system Acting methods Method acting and Stanislavski's system

Method acting Method acting was considered an opposite to Stanislavski's system. Method acting asks that an audience feels the emotion rather than the actor The director is the only creative force in the theater. This method was used by Vselvlod Meyerhold

Major concepts of method acting Biomechanics-Meyerhold wished that his actors were very efficient when carrying out the demands of the director. Meyerhold was uninterested in physiological realism Theatricalism-Meyerhold wanted the audience to know they were in a theatre. Cannot confuse theatre with real life, all it is is an art form Constructivism-the stage, the actor and all of the theatrical elements are a single machine under the direction of the director.

Stanislavski's system Stanislavski's system was a method that taught the actor to realize that action in a performance involves the mind and the body It was created by constantin Stanislavski

Elements of action Actor asks himself/herself: "what would I do if I were a character in this situation" The actor must be familiar with the environment, the who, what, why, when of given situation The actor must observe people and their behavior and try to understand them

An actor must concentrate on the problems at hand while on the stage, they cannot let the problems of the outside world influence his actions The actor must believe in the world he is creating The actor must put all effort into communicating while on the stage. He must get the audience to feel his emotions. The actor should use experiences that are analogous to the feeling needed on the stage

Unimportant facts Meyerhold was a student of Stanislavski, and was told to come up with his own acting method Meyerhold was a communist
