Determining Demand Requirements to meet Business Needs –Business units identify major changes in the nature/scope of their work Changes in volume of work Changes in type of work performed –Enterprise Critical positions and Business Unit critical positions identified to ensure focus –Changes in productivity through continuous improvement activities forecasted –Staffing needs established over time Can build waterfall by business unit/department/level/position/etc.

Determining Demand Requirements from Attrition Forecasting Historic trends are the basis for our retirement projections. Historic trends are impacted by: The economic crisis Union contract years Significant changes in industry Actual 2008 DTE Energy data showed 50% fewer retirements than historic Early 2009 attrition modeling predicted a significant reduction in near-term retirements –Scenario 1: Retirement postponement for two years with three year recovery –Scenario 2: Larger retirement slow down, extending more than 5 years Actual 2009 DTE Energy retirements are tracking close to Scenario 1 The economic crisis has impacted retirements from DTE Energy
