1. What are causes that make children feel they need to overeat? There eating habits, Overeating, lack of exercise, family history of obesity, medical illnesses, medications, stressful life events or changes like separations, divorce, moves, deaths, abuse, family and peer problems, low self-esteem, depression or other emotional problems are causes of the reason why children over eat. (“Obesity In Children And Teens”) Teasing. Being overweight is tough enough and teasing among your child’s peers doesn’t help. Thanksgiving and other holidays, After school eating kids maybe stressed about school or home. Many kids deal with feeling this way by grabbing food. This may make them feel good for a little while, but many times kids feel guilty about it, and of course it can make them gain weight. ("OVERWEIGHT KIDS AND TEENS" )

3. How can obese children be helped? When children do something good, do not reward them with a snack or a treat. When you are eating try and eat healthy so that your children will follow your example. Don’t let them play video games, or watch TV more then a few hours a day. When going to meet your children’s principles ask them what are the healthy snacks they have in the school vending machines. (“Prevent Childhood Obesity”) Many kids are spending less time exercising and more time in front of the TV, computer, or video-game console. And today's busy families have fewer free moments to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals. From fast food to electronics, quick and easy is the reality for many people in the new millennium. Preventing kids from becoming overweight means adapting the way your family eats and exercises, and how you spend time together. Helping kids lead healthy lifestyles begins with parents who lead by example. ("Overweight and Obesity“).

4. Why do obese children not socialize as much as an average person does? Teens with obesity problems usually have even more pressure from their peers, having a hard time socializing and enjoying various activities things that teen age is for (“Psychological”). Obese people are easy targets of bullies. Once child has been bullied there self esteem is lower and they tend to stay by themselves. A positive group of friends helps a child recover from being bullied (“How To Help Children With Socialization”). According to a research study of over 1000 children, obese child especially girls did not feel that they were athletic, also there physical appearance was lower and there self esteem was lower also (Franklin).

5. What are the warning signs of obesity? Weakened muscles- Your muscles wont be able to hold all the weight that you may be carrying. Its called hernia when its for obese men. Less energy- Any little thing you do may make you breathe very heavy and make you very tired. (“Obesity signs, Warning Signs, Signs of obesity”) Not sleeping for more then 10.5 hours before the age of 7. parents are obese. High birth weight Spending a lot of time watching TV. (“Signs and Solutions to Childhood Obesity”)

6. What is obesity? “Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents”. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for there age and height. Childhood obesity is a troubling cause because the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once just in adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression. (“Mayo clinic”) Childhood Obesity, is the result of long term very poor diet. Children today Are fed a steady diet of fast food junk food. And at home the majority of times quantity is valued above quality. so lots of cheep nutrition poor foods are served in an effort to stretch the budget to feed the family through the month. (“Childhood Obesity in America: Part 1: The Causes”)

8. What role do genetics play in childhood obesity? The St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University, led by David B. Allison, Ph.D. estimate that genes account for 75-80% of the percent body fat in children, while the remaining 20-25% environmental influences. Previous studies of fat mass in children have been few and have relied primarily on body mass index measurements, they have estimated approximately 70 percent of BMI is genetically based. (“Genes Play Key Role.”) In a study that included more than 5,000 identical and non-identical twin pairs, researchers found heredity to be a much bigger predictor of childhood obesity than lifestyle. They concluded that three- quarters of a child's risk for becoming overweight is due to genetic influences, while just under a quarter of risk can be attributed to environment. (“WebMDHealth.”)

What are the long term effects of childhood obesity? Heart disease, Strokes, Type II diabetes, Cancers, Hypertension, Sleep apnea. pregnant women with obesity issues have elevated risks for long-term health concerns for their unborn babies. Those health risks include an increased chance of miscarriages and birth defects including Spina Bifida, the leading cause of childhood paralysis. (“Understanding Obesity”) if you are overweight you are putting stress on your joints and bones more than they could sustain which is not really good for them. It could lead you to high risk of developing arthritis in the long run. The more heavier you are the lesser your activity could be and there are more chances of weight gain. Excess body weight could also lead to apnea, the cessation of your breathing during sleep. Due to apnea you might be deprived of quality sleep required for your good health. High blood pressure and even stroke may arise from being obese. “(What Are the Harmful“)
