security Threats to performance Viruses Computer viruses are small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and to interfere with computer operation. A virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your program to spread itself to other computers, or even erase everything on your hard disk. Computer viruses are often spread by attachments in messages or instant messaging messages. Phishing Phish is an Internet scam designed to trick the recipient into revealing credit card, passwords, social security numbers and other personal information to individuals who intend to use them for fraudulent purposes. The scam is known as "phishing" and the communications are sent to appear to look as if they come from reputable companies. The s often instruct the recipient to verify or update account information by requesting a reply to his with updated information, or by providing the recipient with a link to a website where the new information may be entered. How to prevent viruses You can prevent computer viruses by using anti-virus software (e.g. MacAfee and Norton) and fire walls are also good as they only let things out of your computer and not in this is good for online banking and for big companies such as yours. You can prevent Phishing by: using firewalls as they will not let people access your files, you should also send regular s out saying that you should only answer s from us and not to put any personal information in them.

threats to information security associated with widespread use of technology Crashing If your computers over heat or have too many files on they may crash and if a computer with unsaved work on it crashes there is a high chance you’ll lose data and the unsaved work and that is not a good thing if you whole system of computers crash you would lose a lot of data. How to prevent it Ensure that your fan is not covered to stop the system over heating and you should keep saving work regularly so you don’t loose a lot of data if it happens. Data loss This is where you lose saved data sometimes because of crashing or other reasons this can lead to you loosing important save files. How to prevent it You can prevent it by backing up all of your data and save files so that if it happens you have more than one version to ensure its still there if your computer fails your back up files should be saved in a different system like on a hard drive or U.S.B stick.

guidelines and procedures that will help company staff use IT more securely Some Guidelines for computer security: 1.Make sure you save regularly so that if your computer crashes and loses data you wont loose as much as it will have been saved. 2. Install anti-virus software so that if your computer ends up getting a virus this software will deal with it. 3.Firewalls should be installed on every computer at the company to prevent phishing from the internet and also to stop viruses getting through to the computer. 4.You should back up all of the data on your system as if you loose all of the data on your computer you will still have another copy so you wont have lost it. 5.Your companies employees should only go on websites that are trusted by your antivirus software.

The importance of backing up your saved files Don't let your company fall into the old paradigm of "it will never happen to me." While there is certainly a chance that you will never have a need for the backups you make of your files, if something does happen to your computer you will certainly be glad that you have them. And you do not have to backup your entire computer, although this is certainly something that many people do, but only the files that are of the most importance to you. Some things are easily replaced, and there is no need to backup these sorts of things, but those irreplaceable documents or files that are yours and yours alone should be saved in a place where they cannot be damaged. That way, no matter what happens to your computer, you can have security in the fact that all of your files are available in backup.
