Baroque Rome

INTRODUCTION Throughout the seventeenth century, Rome again became the largest religious and cultural center in Italy. The Baroque, the original artistic style born in Rome, including all aspects of life: art, fashion, literature, theater, music, and dance. Its typical elements are originality, fantasy, irregularity, the rich decoration and circular shapes in motion. The greatest Italian architects of the Baroque, Bernini, Borromini and Pietro da Cortona, all worked in Rome

Gian Lorenzo Bernini Gian Lorenzo Bernini (born in 1598, Naples) He was an Italian sculptor, architect and painter, one of the foremost artists of the Baroque.

Architecture His most famous architectures are: Saint Peter's Square, located directly in front of St. Peter´s Basilica in the Vatican City.

- Odescalchi Chigi Palace This palace was redesigned by Bernini, Chigi family when it was purchased in 1664. Bernini's participation in the project has triggered new rules had a great influence on architecture in Central Europe.

Sculpture In his early works faithfully respected the canons Bernini classics, while watching the mannerist influence of his father. However, his style shows an evolution in the four groups Borghesiana, where it appears to force the artist's creativity. In these compositions, the artist captures the climax of the drama, showing the grace and expression of the characters. But above all, what is fascinating about these works virtuosity, the naturalness, the effect of materiality and chiaroscuro. On the other hand, is new sculptures relationship with the surrounding space as they are designed to be viewed from a certain point, not to be surrounded and viewed from any angle.

As an example of his mastery with the stone we find: The Goat Amalthea is a sculpture barroca. The myth of the goat Amalthea is a legend of Greek mythology inherited.

Apollo and Daphne is a sculpture by Italian Gian Lorenzo Bernini between 1622 and 1625. It is a life-size statue of marble, set out in the Borghese Gallery in Rome.

Truth is a sculpture by Bernini in 1645 Truth is a sculpture by Bernini in 1645. His original idea, attested by initial sketches, was a sculpture with the theme Truth discovered by the time where the latter in the form of a whirlwind, violently undressed first. Finally, it was the image of the naked truth with violence but not the representation of Time. It also includes a kind of sun that truth holds in his hands and symbolize the truth is discovered.
