Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Employee Health what employers want from PMI Health Claims Bureau Group Presented by John Gillman

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt A wide range of employer attitudes From “Compliance” to “Culturally embedded”

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt They said what? ( These Companies between them employ more than 25,000 people) “ Only Managers and above get it (PMI), I had to wait until I was promoted, so they can too” HR Director of an international conglomerate “Do you have to share beds in your NHS” US ex pat of International Company

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Ctd… “Don’t bother me with the details, it is only the cost I am interested in.” UK B to B Company “My BUPA is with Aviva” UK media organisation

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt So…… It is a perk, nice hospital, nice food and access to The Top Man. As a perk it must be good and the administration must be perfect because any mistakes or failings will reflect on me – the employer. It is better than the NHS (except for when I need the NHS)

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt And… There is a reason it is provided, it is to deliver a cost efficient alternative to the NHS, faster diagnosis and faster treatment. It doesn’t matter who the insurer is, or who the hospital group is, the facility to pass the problem off to someone else is a major benefit.

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Other issues on my mind Auto enrolment Removal of default retirement age Aging workforce Issues with access to primary care Flexible benefits

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Fundamental Business Needs Speed and Perception –Paying for salaries whilst waiting for the diagnosis –Treatment provided quickly, conveniently and safely Integration –Efficient management of co-morbid conditions –Integration of treatment off and on work site Knowledge for Business Planning –Clear prognosis –Updated prognosis

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Fundamental Personal Needs Survey of 4,000 employees What do they like about PMI? What don’t they like about PMI? What is on their wish list? 54% speed and convenience of diagnosis and treatment. 57% tax and shortfalls. A care co-ordination manager.

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt HCB - Definition of Early Intervention The proactive support and management of an employee in the first few weeks of absence through professional advice, support and guidance and with access to clinical resources. The promotion of employee engagement and facilitation of a prompt resolution with a safe, sustainable and timely return to work.

Gathering Fact, Removing Doubt Deductions PMI is a business and a motivational tool PMI doesn’t provide the entire solution to absence management needs The intermediary market over complicates PMI The NHS and the private sector could work far better together, and both could benefit financially.
