Presentation transcript:

What is NNAT2? The NNAT2 is an evaluation of a students’ nonverbal reasoning and general problem-solving ability. NNAT2 items assess ability regardless of the individual student’s primary language, education, culture or socioeconomic background. NNAT2 items assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. NNAT2 uses abstract figures/designs, and does not rely on verbal skills or achievement.

NNAT Items

NNAT2 Basics… Students have 30 minutes to complete 48 items (NNAT2) All knowledge required to solve each item is presented in the item, so that factual knowledge, vocabulary, mathematics, and reading skills are not required. The NNAT has the following item types: Pattern Completion Reasoning by Analogy Serial Reasoning Spatial Visualization

1.Pattern Completion: requires perception of a pattern within a large rectangle in which a piece is missing, extending the pattern into the missing space.

?

1.Reasoning by Analogy: requires reasoning about the logical relationship between several geometric shapes (changing in one or more dimensions, such as shape and shading) across rows and down columns.

?

Serial Reasoning: requires recognition of a sequence of shapes (e.g., circle—square—triangle) and how the sequence changes across rows and down columns.

Spatial Visualization: requires recognition of how two or more designs would look if combined; may involve rotations or intersection shapes.

?

Sample Student Report

Percentile Rank Using the percentile rank on the score report, this ranking tells you how your child did in comparison to other children who took the test. For example, a percentile rank of 98 would mean that your child scored higher than 98% of the other students who took the test. Explanation of NNAT2 Scoring

Naglieri Ability Index NNAT2 Score of 100 is average (mean) score. The lowest NAI Score is 50. The highest NAI Score is 160. APS uses a score of 120 or higher to screen students for gifted services.
