Winter Olympic Sports

The aim is to ski down a steep slope as fast as possible (times are recorded to hundredths of a second). Contestants must pass through gates placed at fixed intervals according to the discipline.

Alpine Skiing

It combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Biathlon

Teams of two or four make timed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled.

Bobsleigh or Bobsled

Athletes race across snow- covered territory skiing either the classical style or freestyle depending on the race.

Cross-Country (XC) Skiing

A team game in which players slide stones down a narrow lane of ice to stop them as close as possible to the target area.

Curling

An Olympic sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform spins, jumps, footwork and other challenging moves on ice skates.

Figure Skating

A team sport played on ice, in which skaters use sticks to shoot a puck into their opponent's net. The game is played between two teams of six players each.

Ice Hockey (Hockey)

You have to race down an icy track on one's back “face up and feet-first” as fast as possible on a small one- or two-person sled.

Luge

You have to cross the finish line first after complet ing two events: ski jumping followed by a cross-country skiing race (freestyle).

Nordic Combined

It is a form of ice skat ing in which the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates.

Speed Skating

You have to slide down a frozen track, head first and face down on a tiny sledge with no brakes as fast as possible.

Skeleton

A competition taking place on specially prepared hills in which contestants ski down a steep ramp, building up speed before jumping off the end of it and landing.

Ski Jumping

It is a sport that involves going down a slope that is covered with snow on a snowboard attached to a rider's feet.
