Studying in the U.S.A. David Smith Summary: ● General Information about the USA ● What is Good About the USA? ● The American University System ● Specific American Regions ● Exploring and Vacationing in the USA

Living in the U.S.A. ● People travel by car. ● Crime is generally low everywhere but BE CAREFUL. ● American culture is diverse and people are expected to be independent. ● Americans travel abroad less than people from other industrialized countries.

Bad Things About the USA ● Americans often think they are the best at everything. ● There are many rude and selfish Americans. ● The cheap food is very bad for you. ● Most Americans will expect your English to be perfect (DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!) ● American media lies about how Americans behave, look, and think.

What's So Great About the USA? ● Americans value being friendly and taking care of people. ● The country is beautiful. ● American universities are some of the best in the world.

American Universities ● Most American Universities offer a wide range of programs. ● Many great Universities are far away from big cities. ● Professors usually expect students to interact, communicate, and ask questions. ● Most programs have required "core courses" plus required courses in some major.

The Regions of the U.S.A.

Each Region Is Different! ● Most big cities are far apart. ● Nearly all types of climates, from desert to arctic. ● Each region has its own cultural differences and accent. ● BUT, a few things are the same everywhere.

In the South ● Washington, DC ● Atlanta ● Miami ● New Orleans

and the West... ● San Francisco ● Los Angeles ● Colorado – Rocky Mountains ● Las Vegas
