2KW Solar Installation for the Ypsilanti Freighthouse. Strenski – September 18, 2012
The roof has a 1 over 3 pitch or about an 18.5 o angle o
N 53 o 233 o The roof’s ridge line is angled 37 o to the west. This gives the roof two pitches; one with an azimuth of 53 o and one with an azimuth of 233 o. NE SW
Wiring would be done under ridge cap. The roof would be two colors. Propose using Michigan made Uni-Solar PVL-136 solar panels on a raised seamed metal roof. The roof would look similar to these pictures.
feet 190 feet 7 feet 3 feet 36 feet 184 feet 25 feet Using a slope of 1/3, each roof face is 190 by 26.3 for a total of about 5000 sq-ft per face, 10,000 sq-ft for the entire roof. Uni-solar 136-PVL comes in 18 foot lengths and 15.5 inches wide. We would install 16 panels on the South West corner of the roof. 16 * 136 watts = KW system (peak) Each panel cost $65. Total panel cost would be (16 * 65) = $1040 Would need one Sunny Boy 2000HF-US inverter, which cost about $1500 Building Roof Top view of roof

Using the NREL’s PV-Watt program to calculate energy production, this installation will produce about $285 a year using the current rate of $0.12/KWH = 11.9c
Installation cost = $ (may be cheaper with new Solar Current’s program) Dollars generated during the first $0.12/KWH = $ Assuming a fixed price of 12c, the installation will pay for itself in ($ /$285) 10.4 years. Assuming a 4% inflation rate for electrical power, the solar installation should pay for itself in 9 years.
