7 What is Net Metering Net Metering: surplus power produced from your home’s solar system is transferred to the utility grid, offsetting the cost of power later drawn from their utility. Essentially using the utility as “battery storage”

8 Rising Utility Rates State of CT residential rate tariffs have increased avg. of 5.7% annual escalation rate since 2001 Data Source: Energy Information Administration. “Electricity Data Browser”

10 What Makes a Good Solar Site
Buildings with south-facing roofs are best - usually have more access to sunlight. However, roofs facing east or west can be used as well The location should be largely unshaded by trees or rooftop obstructions like chimneys. The roof should be in good condition and not in need of replacement in the near future.

11 Solar Incentives State Solar Incentives Federal Tax Credit
From Connecticut Green Bank: $0.487 / watt < 10 kw system. $0.40 per watt > 10 kw - 20 kw. Systems with a calculated “design factor” greater than or equal to 75% will receive the full incentive amount. Systems with a calculated “design factor” less than 75% will receive an incentive discounted according to calculated design factor. A taxpayer may claim a credit of 30% of qualified expenditures for a system that serves a dwelling unit located in the United States that is owned and used as a residence. If the tax credit exceeds tax liability, the excess amount may be carried forward to the succeeding taxable year. We recommend consulting your tax professional to determine eligibility. Federal Tax Credit

12 Does Financing Make Sense For You?
Cash Purchase Many customers choose to pay for their solar system with cash, but now there are many financing options available to make solar affordable. Dividend – EmpowerLoan The EmpowerLoan is a low-cost loan product that maximizes the financial benefits of our customers. The EmpowerLoan combines system performance guarantees with extended workmanship warrantees and cost savings with the financial upside of owning your system CT Green Bank – Smart-E Loan Provides a financing option through local banks and credit unions, with flexible terms that let you choose the repayment schedule that’s best for you. For a limited time, special smart energy bundles are available with rates as low as 2.99% for 10 years. This Smart-E bundle is for projects that combine solar with other energy efficiency projects for homes. The decision about how to finance your solar PV system depends on your particular financial goals. Because everyone’s goals are different, the “right” financing option is different for each person. They all make going solar easy and affordable
