Viking Women

Who Are Viking Woman? Could women be Vikings? Strictly speaking, they could not. The Old Norse word vikingar is exclusively applied to men, usually those who sailed from Scandinavia in groups to engage in the activities of raiding and trading in Britain, Europe and the East. But some Vikings stayed behind in these regions, and Scandinavian colonies were also established in the North Atlantic (Faroe, Iceland, Greenland).

Where Viking Woman Came From They came from Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

When Vikings Came To Ireland As far as we know Vikings came to Ireland in the early 10 th century.

Clothes Viking women wore a long linen dress. They wore a long apron called a tunic. The dress was held up by a pair of brooches. They wore long woollen socks with leather shoes.

What Women Cooked Viking women used a big black caldron to cook their food over a hot fire. The Vikings ate two meals a day. The protein they ate was beef lamb, mutton, pork, goat and horse meat. They also ate berries and nuts from the forest.

Jewellery Viking woman wore different types of jewellery and hair pieces. They wore… A lunala: Made of gold decorated with lines and wore around the neck or head. A ribbon torc: This was a necklace beaten and formed from gold. A harvest knot: They were woven from rushes and used as love tokens at the harvest festival.

Religion Vikings were pagans and hated Christian church. They believed in many Gods and Goddesses. Such as Odin ( king of all Gods)

Houses Vikings lived in longhouses. The houses were made out of wood, stone or blocks of turf. They also had thatched roofs or turf roofs. The walls were made out of wattle. ( woven sticks covered in mud to keep out the wind and rain).
