What is a Resume? A résumé is a document that contains a summary of relevant job experience and education. First item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker Used to screen applicants, often followed by an interview, when seeking employment

Four Different Types of Resumes Functional Chronological Combination Targeted

Functional Focuses on your skills and experience, rather than on your chronological work history. Used by people who are changing careers or who have gaps in their employment history. Sample Functional Resume

Chronological Employers prefer this type of resume Works well for job seekers with a strong, solid work history. Lists your work history, with the most recent position listed first Jobs are listed in reverse chronological order with your current, or most recent job, first. Sample Chronological Resume

Combination Lists your skills and experience first. Your employment history next. You can highlight the skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for Provide the chronological work history that employers prefer. Sample Combination Resume

Targeted Highlights the experience and skills you have that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Takes more work to write However, it's well worth the effort, especially when applying for jobs that are a perfect match for your qualifications and experience. Sample Targeted Resume

Resume Paper To set yourself apart from others applying for the same positions, it's important to give yourself any added edge possible. Comes in beautiful textures such as Fine linen (has a fine texture embedded into the paper.) Parchment Bamboo (fine texture resembles the structure of a bamboo plant).

Color Choices There really isn't a wrong color choice, unless of course, you opt for a fluorescent or bold color. Some Color Choices are: Granite Ivory White Blue Grey Blue-Grey

Paper Thickness/Heaviness Paper comes in a variety of thickness Standard weight 20 or 24 lb. weight. 20 lb. A traditional thickness paper Often used in printers and copiers 24 lb. feels different from one paper type to the next; Added weight keeps the paper crisp The thickness offers distinction
