© ASIC 2012 Parent/Carer Focus Group Welcome Purpose Introductions

© ASIC 2012 Focus Group Discussion Protocols These three rules are commonly used to guide focus groups: one speaker at a time suspend group discussion until everyone has made one point ask participants to take note of any points that they want to challenge or debate, and do it in the appropriate stages.

© ASIC 2012 Sensitivity and Discretion Staff wish to assure you that they respect your right to bring up your families to reflect your values and beliefs. They will act with discretion in educating students about this vital and sensitive area.

© ASIC 2012 Discussion Questions 1. What are the issues and challenges that you are confronted with as your children grow up and begin engaging with the world as spenders, savers, donors and investors? 2. What do you wish your children knew more about or could do better in relation to their consumer behaviour or money management? 3. How can you help support classroom teachers in this area of work? 4. What do you wish the school could do more of to support you in your role as primary educator in relation to money management and consumer habits?

© ASIC 2012 Sharing Outcomes The Focus Group outcomes will be shared in the following ways: 1.The facilitator will report back to the school MoneySmart Teaching management team. 2.The report will be presented to teachers implementing MoneySmart Teaching units of work in Workshop 2 3.If the group is comfortable with the idea, the report reflecting the outcomes of the focus Group discussion will be published in the parent/carer newsletter..

© ASIC 2012 Thank you! Thank you for: discussing your ideas on consumer and financial literacy engaging with the school to become partners in teaching consumer and financial literacy to our young people. Please continue your discussion over a cuppa.
