 Aboriginal Oral Traditions Understanding the Importance of Oral Traditions “In the Aboriginal world view, every event leaves a record in the land” (Crystalink 3).

THE VALUE OF STORYTELLING  What life do stories take on when they are told orally, rather than written?  How does the teller, tell the story well? What do they emphasize, what do they add, subtract, etc. to make the story a well TOLD story?  What verbal stories are alive in your family and ancestry? 

Diversity Across Australia  There are hundreds of distinct Aboriginal groups across Australia- each with unique names usually identifying particular languages. Each language was used for original myths.  With so many distinct Aboriginal groups, languages, beliefs and practices, scholars cannot attempt to characterize the full range and diversity of all myths.

Oodgeroo Noonuccal  Oodgeroo ) was an Australian poet, political activist, artist and educator. She was also a campaigner for Aboriginal rights. Oodgeroo is best known for her poetry, and was the first Aboriginal Australian to publish a book of verse.Aboriginal 
