The Word ‘GREAT’ is spelt in the kingdom of God LEAST

H UM S T The Word ‘GREATEST’ is spelt in the kingdom of God B E L

Main Idea: It is important to set things right at a deeper level to be able to understand spiritual things at a deeper level

Mark 9: From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later." 32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, 3 for you are still fleshly. John 16:12 I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now Hebrews 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

1.They were afraid to ask (v.32b) 2.They were preoccupied with petty talks (vv.33-37) 3.They were preoccupied with the stumbling block game (vv.38-50) Possible reasons why they didn’t get it:

1.How to pray? (Matt 11:1) 2.Why could we not drive it (demon) out? (Mk 8:28) 3.Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind? (Jn 9:2) 4.Explain the parable to us – Peter (Matt 15:15) 5.Tell us when will these things happen (Matt 24:3) Some questions that the disciples asked:

James 4:2-3 You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives… Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

1.They were afraid to ask (v.32b) 2.They were preoccupied with petty things (vv.33-37) Possible reasons why they didn’t get it:

Mark 9: They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, "What were you discussing on the way?" 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." Servant (Gr. Diakonos)  One who willingly attends to menial taks Slave (Gr. Doulos)  Represents the relationship as a bond man

1.They were afraid to ask (v.32b) 2.They were preoccupied with petty talks (vv.33-37) 3.They were preoccupied with the stumbling block game (vv.38-50) Possible reasons why they didn’t get it:

Matthew 12:30 “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” Mark 9:40 “For he who is not against us is for us.” SERVICE STANDING VS

Stumbling block – Something in someone that causes a disciple to turn away from Jesus, resulting in serious spiritual damage The Bible knowledge Commentary Comes from the Greek word ‘Scandalizo’ meaning ‘causing to sin’

1.Forced DEEP SEA diving (v.42) 2.Have your own surgery room (vv ) Appropriate punishment for being a stumbling block:

What percentile are you in your spiritual growth chart?
