Presentation transcript:

New National Curriculum 2015 Fewer things –greater depth “Mastery curriculum” expectation that pupils will deepen their understanding to provide firm building blocks for future learning. Teachers to present knowledge so that it is accessible for all pupils. Opportunities for innovation and exciting curriculum design. Concepts, knowledge and skills rather than attaining a “level threshold” Initially a step change in expectations, higher “expected standard” in comparison to old NC – there will need to be a period of adjustment –Independence –Fluency –Consistency –Application

2016 Primary Assessment New EYFS Baseline(s) EYFS Profile (we have always had this and this will not change) Phonics Screening (we have done this for 3 years now, anyone that fails resits in Year 2. There are talks that this maybe carried out in Year 3.) New KS1 Teacher Assessment informed by new Tests (tests that are given as well as Teacher assessment. There is now a mental arithmetic and a reasoning paper) New KS2 Tests and Teacher Assessment- Reading, writing + SPAG and Maths (3 papers). The school could be a pilot for a Science test, we will find this out nearer the time.

Assessing progress not measuring? There are no points There are no levels There is no national expected progress Will assess using age related expectations. Are they on track for their age? Parents will be told this and also given next steps for learning. The new curriculum is now focusing on targets to move learning forward.

Schools can choose the assessment without levels scheme. Kirk Smeaton have taken the Chris Quigley Milestones assessment. Milestone 1 – Emerging Expected End of Year 2 Exceeding Milestone 2- Emerging Expected End of Year 4 Exceeding Milestone 3- Emerging Expected End of Year 6 Exceeding

Assessing Progress Should different pupils make the same progress? Can we measure the amount of progress they make? When the children have learnt a new skills it will be ticked off their milestones. Over the year this will be monitored to show how much progress.
