ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute The ACE TESOL Diploma consist of 150 instructional hours and 30 practicum hours. The course is divided into three general subject areas (Learning, Teaching, Language), plus a practicum. Each subject area is then divided into modules.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Attendance Policy Certification is contingent upon attending a minimum of 90% of the classes. The trainer will require that you make up any classes missed through additional reading and/or assignments. If you were unable to attend a class due to illness, please inform your trainer as soon as possible. You may be asked to provide the trainer with a doctor’s note as evidence of illness.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Assessment Policy 1. In order to receive certification, all components of the course must be completed and passed. A passing grade in each component is 70%. The practicum is graded on a fail/pass/high pass/distinction basis. You will have one ‘redo’ chance if you fail one of the Observation Report, a Term Exam or the evaluated solo teaching component of the practicum. 2. The Task Journal for each module must be completed and submitted to your instructor by the next class. Task Journals not submitted by the next class will be considered late. Marks for Task Journals will be deducted at the Trainer’s discretion. If all Task Journals have not be completed by the last day of the course your Task Journal will be considered incomplete. Extenuating circumstances will be considered according to the institution’s academic policy. 3. Up to 5% of an assessment grade per day will be deducted at the trainer’s discretion if the other assignments (Observation Report, Term Exams) are handed in late.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Assessment Policy (continued) 4. If you are not satisfied with an assessment procedure or result please contact the Program Manager. They will then assign another trainer to review your assessment or they will review it themselves. Should you still not be satisfied with the result, your assessment will be forwarded to the ACE head office for review by ACE management staff. All reviews by ACE management staff are final. 5. If you have a documented learning disability and require modified testing conditions, please inform your trainer at the beginning of the course. You will be asked to provide documentation that specifically outlines the modified testing conditions that you require. 6. Admittance into the 30-hour practicum portion of the course is contingent upon satisfactory performance during the preceding coursework. 7. Finalization of marks and certification is contingent upon full payment of all tuition due.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Refund Policy To withdraw from the course, you must first provide a written letter including your reason for withdrawing. Any refund issued is governed by the refund policy of the institution you are attending. In general, refunds are calculated based on the following: Withdrawal occurs within 2 days of registration – full refund of fees paid Withdrawal occurs more than 2 days after registration, but before commencement of program – full amount paid less $150. Withdrawal occurs within the first half of the program – full amount paid less 20% and less the portion of fees in respect to the portion of the period that had elapsed at the time of withdrawal. Withdrawal occurs within the second half of the program – no refund

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Student Complaint Procedure All student complaints must be made in writing, and will remain confidential. The procedure outlined below must be followed. A staff member presented with a verbal complaint will ask the student to follow the procedure and remind the student of the written complaint requirement. The Program Manager will also ask for a copy of any written response(s) form those already contacted by the student in accordance with the procedure. Arrangements for meetings and written responses from the person being complained about will be made in a timely and professional fashion. No complaint will go unanswered. Records of complaints will be maintained in the location where it originated for a period of at least three years. Step 1 The student will request a meeting with an instructor responsible for the course to discuss the complaint verbally. If not resolved at this level, the student will proceed to Step 2.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Step 2 The student will submit a completed written complaint to the Program Manager, using the contact information: Paula Medina - Director, London Language Institute Central Avenue, London, ON N6A 1M6 Tel: (519) , The Program Manager will arrange a meeting with the student within 7 days of receipt of the written complaint. The student will have an opportunity to make an oral presentation of the complaint at this meeting and to have another person present or another person make the oral presentation on his/her behalf. This meeting will be minuted. The Program Manager will provide a written response to the student, outlining the discussion and any proposed and/or agreed upon solution(s) within 14 days of the meeting. This response will include a decision statement, together with the reasons on which the decision is based and minutes of meetings held. If not resolved at this level, the student will proceed to Step 3.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Step 3 The student will submit a completed written to complaint to the Program Director (Advance Consulting for Education), using the contact information: Dianne Tyers - Director, Advance Consulting for Education 2617 Cushing Road, Mississauga, ON L5K 1X4 Tel: (416) , The Program Director will arrange a meeting with the student within 14 days of receipt of the written complaint and the report from the Program Manager with recommended solutions and the student’s objections or comments regarding these solutions. The student will have an opportunity to make an oral presentation of the complaint at this meeting and to have another person present or another person make the oral presentation on his/her behalf. This meeting will be minuted. The Program Director will provide a written response to the student, outlining the discussion and any proposed and/or agreed upon solution(s) within 14 days of the meeting and minutes of meetings held.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Student Expulsion Policy We are committed to offering quality programs and ensuring that our students have to opportunity to successfully complete their programs. Policies are in place to ensure that all students are treated fairly and equally. Any student actions that contravene the academic and ethical policies in place may be subject to penalties, up to and including expulsion from the ACE TESOL Diploma course.. In general, attempts will be made to resolve situations without expulsion. Verbal warning, written warning, or suspension may precede the final act of expulsion. Should the safety or well being of London Language Institute staff, students, or guests be in jeopardy, expulsion may be applied at our discretion without prior warning. It is our responsibility to ensure that all students are aware of situations or actions in which expulsion may result. The following outlines the conditions in which a student may be expelled with cause: Academic Dishonesty Outstanding Fees Omissions or Errors in Admissions Documentation Attendance Harassment or Discrimination Misuse of Property Endangerment of Staff, Students, or Guests

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Student Expulsion Policy (continued) Students who are subject to expulsion for any reason will be notified in writing, either hand delivered or by registered mail. We are not responsible for non-delivery if the student has not provided a valid home address where the student currently resides. The notification will contain a description of the basis for expulsion and the effective date. Students may appeal the decision within three days of the notification following the Student Complaint Policy, and must provide sufficient proof to support why the expulsion should be revoked. Students who file an appeal and are unsuccessful will officially be withdrawn from the program. A student expelled will be considered withdrawn from the program on the effective date of the expulsion. Any refunds owed will be issued to the student, according the Refund Policy. A student who is expelled is responsible for the return of any property in his/her possession belonging to us, and will be held financially responsible for any property not returned in good condition within 10 days of the notice of expulsion.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Task Journals (60%) You will complete a Task Journal for each module of the course. Each Task Journal is graded out of 3 marks. Observation Report (15%) You will prepare a two-page summary of your observations, comparing and contrasting the different classes observed. Term Exams (25%) You will complete three one-hour exams throughout the course, consisting of short-answer questions that will require you to integrate your learning form the course with your practical experience as a teacher.

ACE TESOL Diploma Program – London Language Institute Practicum You will complete 30 practicum hours, of which 20 will be spent in observations and 10 under the supervision of your Mentor Instructor. In the 10 hours with your Mentor Instructor, you will complete 7 hours of solo-teaching (with informal feedback); 1.5 hours of solo teaching (with formal feedback); and 1.5 hours of evaluated solo-teaching (observed, videotaped, and evaluated) You should use the Practicum Hours Tracking form to track your teaching hours. Make sure you get the appropriate initials and signatures on the form.
