Information Words and phrases to collect for writing Words and phrases that add additional information e.g. ‘in addition’, ‘furthermore’, ‘also’… Subject specific and technical vocabulary Words and phrases that start sentences such as ‘most’, ‘many’, ‘some’, ‘a few’ Present tense verbs Past tense verbs if writing about the past
Information writing frame Beginning: a paragraph that gives a definition and classification of what is going to be described Middle: A series of paragraphs grouped around a subject, e.g. appearance, food, habitat, behaviour. Ending: Paragraph that contains a conclusion – maybe a final issue, important or amazing fact or point
Information writing Clear title that indicates what the text is about The subject of the text is defined Paragraphs are organised around specific subjects Paragraphs start with a topic sentence and elaborate on that topic Headings and sub-heading are used Information is factual and accurate Precise, factually descriptive language is used
