V-J Day in Times Square. Best known photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt. August 14, 1945. Eisenstaedt- “People tell me that when I’m in heaven, they will remember this picture.”

Alfred Eisenstaedt 1898-1995 One of the best known photojournalists of the 20th century. Born in West Prussia (now Poland) Spent the first years of his life photographing in Germany for AP. Emigrated to the United States in 1935.

Joseph Goebbels Novemeber 29, 1954 Eisenstaedt photographed Goebbels, Hilter’s Minister of Propaganda, as he was surrounded by his aids. Having a “clubfoot” Goebbels seems displease with the fact he is being photographed.

Was one of the first photographers to work for LIFE magazine. Had over 90 LIFE magazine cover photographs. Was considered the ideal photo-reporter, he was constantly ready for action. Photographed the effects of the war in Ethiopia.

The Graf Zeppelin being repaired over the South Atlantic. 1934 Eisenstaedt made this photograph from the top of the Zeppelin as it made it’s journey to Rio de Janerio. He was only allowed, by German officials, to make three photographs.

Drum Major. October 30, 1950 Eisenstaedt- “I do not photograph blood or war or the homeless stretched out on the subway steps.” For Eisenstaedt joy was as worthy a record as sorrow.

Puppet Show. Paris August 12,1963 A difficult assignment for Eisenstaedt. Paris had been photographed so many times by others. He had to do it his way. He shot two roll on the puppet show alone.

Waiters, St. Moritz. 1932

Portrait of Thomas Hart Benton. May 21, 1971 Eisenstaedt photographed Benton almost ever year starting in 1937. Benton was a famous painter who painted murals for the legislature in Kansas City.

Portrait of Erine Pyle October 2, 1944 Pyle was a newspaper reporter who served on the front lines during WWII. After the session Pyle wrote in Eisenstaedt’s autograph book. “I haven’t seen the pictures yet but if they’re as understanding as your presence while taking them, then they will be pleased.
