… there’s wind power … which is clean fairly predictable and can be seen on hillsides all around Wales

… solar panels or “ photovoltaic cells ”… can turn Sunlight directly into electricity

…like this massive 11 MegaWatt solar power station… Near Serpa in Portugal comprising Fifty two thousand solar panels …around which sheep graze and frolic happily…

…and we can use it to heat water too…. Like this system being used on a rooftop in Israel

…like the PS10 “solar power tower” in Seville in Spain… …and uses the steam to turn turbines and generators to produce electricity which boils water to make steam

… or energy from water … like the Severn estuary which could be used To generate lots of electricity

…by holding the water behind a big “barrage” when the tide is high…

…so the water that flows through…

…and gets trapped behind the barrage…

…and when the tide goes back down… …we let all the water out... making lots of electricity…!

…we can use crops for fuels – we call these biofuels…. Lots of cars now use vegetable oil for fuel

…we also have nuclear power… which doesn’t release harmful gases into the atmosphere

Although it does produce harmful Radioactive waste Which can cause other problems…

…we can get power from coal or oil fired power stations……….. Burning coal releases harmful gases into the atmosphere

Fuels are burned to release heat energy which boils Water to produce steam which spins turbines which turn generators !

…and from wood fired power stations Which releases LESS harmful gases than coal

…some of this power can be produced by hydroelectricity

…at Ffestiniog By power stations like this one…
