The Witness of Works & Words John 2:1-12:50

The Wedding in Cana (2:1-12) Mary's simple action illustrates that receiving our Lord's filling and healing begins with recognizing our need. It may be more difficult for us to identify our problem. No matter, if we are left to our own resources, we will run dry.

The Wedding in Cana (2:1-12) But recognizing our emptiness before Christ will allow him to work a miracle in us. He will apply his powerful resources to our lives

Healing of nobleman’s son (4:46-54) Some knowledge of Jesus (v. 46) He came to Jesus in desperation. (v. 47) He exercised faith. (v. 50) His faith was rewarded. (v. 51) The entire household of the nobleman received Jesus by grace through faith.

Healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda (5:1-47) Tradition holds that an angel periodically stirred the waters at the Pool of Bethesda. 38 years corresponds closely to the time the Israelites wandered in the wilderness. This man’s predicament demonstrates the poverty of the Law which shows us the need for a Savior. The fact that this healing took place on the Sabbath further underscores the point.

Feeding of the 5,000 (6:1-14) The boy had five loaves and two fish. Our "scientific age" tries to explain everything in materialistic terms. Scientific materialism removes the miraculous from the miracles. This miracle shows that God will supernaturally take care of us and provide for us.

Walking on water(6:16-21) This miracle revealed two things: To the disciples it revealed Jesus' authority. It also revealed His purpose of ministry to the crowds. The disciple’s requirements for help in their distress were simple enough—recognize their own need and take Jesus into the boat.

Healing of the blind man. (9:1-41) This man was given sight in two ways: Physical Spiritual People recognized him one who was born blind, but now he had physical sight. His spiritual sight is shown when he is taken to the Pharisees. He had received wisdom from the Holy Spirit.

Raising Lazarus from the dead (11:1-44) Jesus was and is the giver of life. We need fellow Christians and Christ's power to unwrap us.
