Presentation transcript:

In a brief paragraph, please explain why the procedures for sharing, like the 4L’s and the sentence frames are so important to developing your skills as a communicator. Please use the sentence frame below when sharing in group or with the class: “The procedures for sharing are important to developing (my/our) communication skills because ___________________.”

Learning Goal Today I will assess my reading and vocabulary skills by completing an interactive electronic test called the “Scholastic Reading Inventory.”

Welcome back! As you know, we will be doing a lot of collaborative work in this class. Please review the elements of discussion rubric provided last week. In a brief paragraph, please describe what it should sound like, look like, and feel like when a classmate is actively listening?

Learning Goal Today I will learn how to state my opinion using appropriate language and how to restate, compare, and report a classmate’s idea using complete sentences by participating in an academic discussion lesson.

Sentence Frames Sharing Issue Survey Answers: “I chose_____________ because_____________.” (p.6-7) Language to Restate: “So you think that___________.” Partner Response: “Yes, that’s right.” “No, not exactly. What I meant was_________.” Language to Compare Ideas: I agree with_______________’s idea that__________. My idea is similar to __________’s idea that __________. Language to Report: One precise adjective I plan to use is _________.

Exit Reflection Today we talked about how an effective lesson partner can display active listening along with various characteristics of an effective lesson partner. In a brief paragraph, please describe one way in which your table partner has displayed characteristics of an effective lesson partner, and one way in which you have been an effective lesson partner.
