Job-hunting ( related with a graduate school )  Introduction Since we are living in a very different world than even 10years ago, we have a plenty of different types of life styles and jobs nowadays. However, even though we have numerous and various jobs around us, it’s still not easy to find a job concerning population, race, desire and so on. There are a lot of reasons for entering University for the young and the one is for job-hunting. Unfortunately there are many graduate students who are highly qualified but haven’t got any job. Because of that, they have been going to graduate school. This situation is getting common in Korea and even I have been thinking about going abroad to go to graduate school for my career. Since I’m in Japan now, I wanted to know how Job-hunting is going on in Japan and how Japanese students think about going graduate school.

Corpus Total : 20 students 10 male students 10 female students All of them are the students of Saga Univ. Age : from 19 ~ 24 years old.

Questionnaire Q. 1 If you have a chance to go to a graduate school, would you be willing to go ? 1. Absolutely 2. Want to go 3. Don’t want to go 4. Don’t have a plan 5. Never even think about it

Questionnaire Q. 2 Is it difficult to get a job in Japan after graduate an undergraduate school? 1. Absolutely 2. Difficult 3. Normal 4. Not difficult 5. Easy

Questionnaire Q. 3 If you wanted to go to graduate school, would it be for improving academic knowledge or for your career? 1. Want to study more 2. Don’t want to get a job right now 3. For my career 4. Want to be a professor 5. Don’t mention

Questionnaire Q. 4 Why do you think that ‘ フリーター ’ exists in Japan? 1. Difficult to get a job 2. Don’t have something want to do 3. Enough for life 4. Don’t want busy life 5. Want to have a time

Questionnaire Q. 5 If you had to go to graduate school, would you want to stay in Japan or go abroad? 1. Japan 2. Foreign country 3. Doesn’t matter

Questionnaire Q. 6 What makes your Job-hunting difficult ? 1. Background of University 2. Not enough job 3. Money cost 4. Interview 5. Desire for oneself

Conclusion  As a result of this survey, men want to go to a graduate school more than women do. Normally every one thinks that Job-hunting is not easy to do but women have stronger difficulties for getting a job. For this point, I think it is same as Korea. There were some of students who didn’t answer for the question of the reason why would you want to go to a graduate school but many students want to go to a graduate school because they want to have advantages for their careers and Job-hunting among the students who did answer the question. This is similar to Korea as well. When I asked students about ‘ フリーター ’, I actually expected the answer that because of difficulty of Job-hunting but most of students answer because they don’t have something they actually want

Conclusion to do for their life. In Korea, a lot of students want to go to U.S for graduate school but many Japanese students answer that they would like to study in Japan if they had to go to graduate school. The most difficult thing for Japanese students to get a job is an interview –mostly male students-(8/20 ; 40%) and the second one is self-desire –mostly female students(6/20 ; 30%).
