Presentation transcript:

Center for Enhancement of Math Education CSU San Bernardino

 Assist teachers in recalling the math they once knew in order to take and pass the first two CSET subtests, which cover the subject matter requirements for the Foundational Level Credential  Awaken an understanding of the need to learn more math in order to teach better  Demonstrate some teaching strategies to help enhance teaching

 Current middle school math teachers who need to earn additional credentialing in order to be highly qualified  Career changers who have appropriate background in math but need a refresher in order to take and pass the CSET exams  Elementary teachers who wish to make the move to middle school  Teachers credentialed in other areas, in order to be more “marketable”

 Content is based on the CCTC requirements ◦ Subtest 1: Algebra and Number Theory ◦ Subtest 2: Geometry and Probability and Statistics CCTC requires this content for “subject matter competency” for a Foundational Level Credential in math  Teaching style: combination of problem solving and direct instruction

 40-hour institutes, one for each of the first two subtests  Instructed by teams: one from CSUSB math faculty and one K-12 math expert  Preferred schedule: 8 hours/week over a period of 5 weeks  Provide materials written by ICMP instructors with content and practice.
