Welcome to Forensic Science!! Mrs. Ollo

A general idea about the course… The students will study core investigative techniques used during crime scene investigations through hands-on learning settings. Lab activities will be the primary focus of the class. –Real Investigative procedures!!

Topical Outline Unit 1: What is Forensic Science? Unit 2: Types of Physical Evidence Unit 3: Fingerprinting Unit 4: Footwear Analysis Unit 5: Hair and Fiber Analysis Unit 6: Document and Handwriting Analysis Unit 7: Fire Arms Unit 8: Blood Spatter Analysis Unit 9: DNA Evidence Unit 10: Crime Scene Investigation Procedures (creation and investigation of a crime)

Grading Homework/classwork Presentations (group) Labs *Crime Scene Project (creation, investigation, and analysis) * will be part of the final exam grade

Lab Policies Labs will be carried out either individually or with lab partner depending upon the activity. Depending upon the lab, labs may be handed in for a group or individual grade. Late policy- 50% credit for turning in a lab the day after it is due.

Crime Scene Project!! For approximately the last 4-5 weeks of the semester the class will be working in groups to set up, investigate and analyze a crime scene. Each group will set up their crime scene somewhere in school. The students will then work in groups to investigate each others crime scenes Grading- based on analysis of evidence in the form of a portfolio. Final Exam- Case/Investigation will be presented to the class with PowerPoint.

My goals this semester… To get the students excited about science! For the students to understand that forensic scientists use and apply all the sciences when investigating crimes! For students to strengthen their own problem solving skills!

My contact info… Cari Ollo- Forensic Science Teacher - –Best way to contact me for a quick response Room C201
