Influences on location. When choosing a good location for business, there are a few important points to consider. These being:-

Group Brainstorm In groups of four Brainstorm the reasons for the location of the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff List as many reasons you can think of Be ready to feedback to the rest of the group

Location of Millennium Stadium Home of Welsh Rugby – Cardiff capital of Wales Good transport links – M4 motorway to London less than 5 miles away, Cardiff Airport approx 10 miles away, travel Time from London is approx 2 hours, flights from Scotland and France regular

Location of Millennium Stadium Close to major population area in Wales and the market (most rugby played in South Wales valleys) Tradition – home of the previous Cardiff Arms Park

Location of raw materials. An area that is rich in raw materials will attract industry. Locating closer to raw materials also reduces the organisations costs.

Transportation links  Road  Rail  Sea  Air Firms need to locate near to good transport links,to help minimise costs As well as good communication links, (telephone, postal, broadband)

The Workforce It can be a problem to find enough people to make up the workforce – if there is high levels of unemployment this is not an issue. However workers with specialist skills are often needed.

Location of Markets This involves locating close to the organisations customers. For example services locate, where people can easily get to them,.ie dentists/supermarkets

External economies of scale Sometimes, whole industries develop in particular areas. For example the car industry in the West Midlands.  Can share expertise & training Advantages  Conduct new research together.

Government. Central government has become increasingly important in having an influence on where firms locate.  Offer financial incentives  Help reduce the unemployment rate.

Conclusion, All factors have an influence on the final decision made, by the organisation. However the most important one of all, which is evident in the other factors is………

KEEPING ORGANISATIONAL COSTS TO A MINIMUM!!!!!!!
