Presentation transcript:

 While you wait for the computers to load, please answer this question:  Based on the anticipation guide and discussion last week what is one characteristic or quality you would say all heroes require and WHY? Please write in your bell ringer section. Two minutes, three lines.

 Goal: Students will identify and use effective discussion techniques AND understand the qualities of a hero.  Question: What are characteristics that all heroes have in common?

 Please complete the anticipation guide, on your own, silently, on a piece of paper in your notes section. Please mark whether you agree or disagree and explain why on your paper. DO NOT write on the copies you were given. Make sure you are ready to defend your answer. You have five minutes.

 Title a page “Who is a hero?”  Then, use the next two minutes to list as many heroes as you can think of that are REAL.  Example: Abe Lincoln,  Non-Example: Superman  Don’t forget to share!!

 Definition of a hero: a hero is someone who makes a great direct difference or has had a strong positive influence on you or others.  Heroes typically have these qualities/character traits: (A character trait describes someone based on what they do and say. When we talk about characterization we are giving a character/person character traits.)  perseverance  compassion  makes a difference  inspiring  selflessness

 Does anyone still match all of these qualities on your hero list? If so, please write their name on a post-it note and explain why and/or how. Only the best will get to be permanently on our poster. Good luck! You have three minutes to find a true hero and explain your answer. When you are done, please put it on the poster at the front.

 What is one characteristic of a hero from our class list that means most to you and why? You have two minutes. We will write these on the smartboard.
