PPTA Governance Review Shorter term considerations

Process  The Task Force (TF) compared chapter activities in states of similar size and states of smaller size  Comparison and discussion continued for best “practices” and potential consolidation for current structure  Two models were proposed: shorter term recommendations and longer term recommendations

Board Meeting Format  Recommendation for increased preparation prior to actual board meeting with ongoing discussion via electronic methods  Recommendation to use face-to-face board meetings combining discussion prior to board meeting without Parliamentary procedure- discussion groups that would be facilitated by the current attendees and then proceed to Board business meeting  Consider changing format of Board reports

Special Interest Groups (SIG)  Recommend changing the name of the SIG to reflect clinical focus  Recommend involving every SIG in the Professional Development Committee as an active member rather than sending a representative to the Professional Development Committee meetings

Shorter Term Assignments  Recommendation to include short term assignments which would allow more members to serve but not make long term commitment  Several methods to include this model were discussed

Leadership Training  Recommend more leadership training at PPTA and district level to encourage participation and ensure quality leaders Current charge to the BoD for PPTA to conduct annual leadership training for BoD participants  Consider multiple venues such as in person, online, webinars etc

Professional Development Committee  Committee currently responsible for conference planning, regional seminars, coordination of state board approval for contact hours, maintenance of web page related to continuing education opportunities  Increase number of people participating in the committee-short and long term assignments  Better definition of roles and responsibilities  Better understanding of chapter office responsibility and committee responsibility

Academic Partnerships  Note the diversity of contact and partnership with academic community  Create a better partnership with the academic programs  Recommend establish an academic council committee comprised of all the academic programs that chose to participate These members could elect a member to sit on the BoD of PPTA as ex officio member (voice no vote)

Chapter Staff Roles and Responsibilities  Provide better understanding of the responsibilities of each chapter staff member  Assign chapter office staff contact to committees and SIG’s to provide single point of contact  Increase training for IT issues for chapter staff (and committee and SIG chairs)
