Expectations By the end of this virtual tour through Egypt you will be able to:  Recognize some of the major cities in Egypt and what can be found in each city.  Complete the quiz at the end by referring to previous slides.  Master facts and research on one city in Egypt by creating a fact poster with various pictures.

Where is Egypt?  Egypt is a country in northern Africa.  Majority of the population lives near the Nile River.  Egypt is home to some of the world’s most famous monuments, cities, and pyramids.

The Red Sea  The Red Sea is located East of Egypt. It was created from moving plates in the Earth. The Red Sea supplies the surrounding countries with the only source of water. The Red Sea is actually not red at all, it is blue. The theory of The Red Sea’s name is because it borders the Egyptian Desert, which the Ancient Egyptians called the “red land” so it was thought that the “red land” would have “red sea”. /watch?v=fmGJqTd0Qt8 Click on the link below to go underwater in the Red Sea.

The Nile River FACTS  The Nile River is the longest river in the WORLD, measuring at 4,184 miles long.  The Nile River is the main and only river in Egypt. Click on the picture to learn more about The Nile River.

The Sahara Desert  Covers most of North Africa.  Largest desert in the world.  Has a dry and humid climate.  Some animals that can be found there include hyenas and birds. To learn more about the Sahara Desert, click the link below.

Additional Assessments  Fact Poster: You are to create a fact poster using the information you have learned from the tour. Choose a city in Egypt that you learned about. Research and list ten facts about the city. You may print out pictures and post them on your poster. These will be posted under our “Travel Around the World” bulletin board.
