Alexandra M Kokoli Andrea Peach Contextual and Critical Studies Stage 2 - Staff Team

Alexandra M Kokoli Rethinking the Subject: Feminism and Creative 2007: Revival of feminism in art and design This course will examine a wide range of feminist creative practice (from Louise Bourgeois to Tracey Emin), art and design history and theory, and key debates around gender, sexuality, and representation, with special emphasis on contributions informed by psychoanalysis and post-structuralism. Not about ‘women artists’ nor simply ‘feminist art’ – BUT Influence on contemporary creative practice – e.g. Emphasis on the body, gender, and sexuality Interface (& collaboration) between theory and practice Mutual implication of ‘high art’ and popular visual and material culture Questioning the division between art and craft Interface between art and politics

A Sense of Place Andrea Peach This programme will look at the idea of ‘place’ in both a cultural and philosophical context. It will investigate how we construct relationships with places, both real and imaginary, and the importance of place in locating our identity. We will look at the influence of land, nature and cultural geography on creative practice, as well as the idea of ‘non-places’ in our increasingly global society. We will draw on a wide range of disciplines and discourses to consider the meaning of place. Case studies will be taken from art, architecture, design and literature.
