Presentation transcript:

 Before you start  TIPS  Slides continent’s (Material)

 Before you start preparing your presentation, you must know  Who are your audience?  How much time you have for the presentation?

 First impression matter!  Try to motivate your audience. Choose the right words.  Keep it simple and focus on a few key points.  Make the audience want to learn more.  Know at least the first few minutes of your talk by heart to get over the butterflies and set the right tone.

 Be neat  Avoid trying to cram too much into one slide Don’t be a slave to your slides.  Be brief, use keywords rather than long sentences  Understand EVERYTHING you present.  Avoid covering up slides  Keep text to a minimum

 Use colors to emphasize  Use illustrations to get across key concepts May include animation  Make eye contact. Face your audience at all times.  Be ready to skip slides if time is short  SMILE. A bit of humor is always appreciated  P R A C T I C E !!!

 Background and motivation.  Information that puts “what you are going to tell them” in context.  why “what are you are telling them” is critical and important.  Research done  “what you are telling them” should be understandable to all audience.  Conclusion  “what you told them”

 Use 1-2 slides per minute of your presentation  Write in point form, not complete sentences  Include 4-5 points per slide  Avoid wordiness: use key words and phrases only

 This page contains too many words for a presentation slide. It is not written in point form, making it difficult both for your audience to read and for you to present each point. Although there are exactly the same number of points on this slide as the previous slide, it looks much more complicated. In short, your audience will spend too much time trying to read this paragraph instead of listening to you.

 A successful talk is dynamic between the speaker and the audience; a lousy audience is just as bad as a lousy speaker  Be engaged in the talk. You’re not watching TV; you’re at work. Sit up front. Concentrate. Don’t tune out.  ASK QUESTIONS! Questions are part of the ritual. Don’t be a wall flower.  There’s nothing that helps a speaker more than to see you nodding your head in approval!
