What’s new with English for 7 th graders?  No longer a double period for Lang.Arts+Reading (but we still do the same amount of work for the class!)  More reading & writing done at home  Individualized online grammar instruction (  Wordly Wise schedule—new lessons on Friday (HW over the weekend), check all on Wednesday, quiz on Thursday  Reading Journal (alternates with W.Wise, home)—assigned on Friday, due next Friday

Literature in Context— “Turning Experience into Art”  Speaking of History…Civil War novel, Family Story project (oral history), American poetry from the 1850s to today, Great Depression novel, Holocaust memoirs  Shakespeare—read, perform, design (in conjunction with Drama class)  First Grade Book—create an illustrated story book about a 1 st grader (in conjunction with Art class)  Writing workshop—poetry, edited family story, short stories, reading journals, free writes, essays

Technology as a Tool— Read, Write, Create  Compose and edit writing pieces on laptop  Online grammar— other sites  Internet—research & extension resources for each unit  Video—family story project, grammar commercials, creative end-of-unit activities  Research presentations—PowerPoint, digital artwork  English website: Up-to-date assignments and handouts for the week Links for extra help with W.Wise, writing, spelling, grammar + relevant research/extension links for each unit Parents can see what their child is studying & discuss topics with their child.
