HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEM INTEROPEARBILITY A CASE OF KAREN HEALTH FACILITY. Presenter :Samwel. O. Olala Health informatics Track.

Objectives. To understand the Interoperation of systems and its benefits in hospital environment. What is interoperability ? Understanding the benefits to that comes with it. The basic requirements. The key standards used in interoperability.(HL7,) The way to go?

Definitions It is intercommunication between different departments of within the same health facility. Exchange of information using the HL7 standards for the purpose of sharing and making evidence based decisions making as opposed to intuition based making.

Importance of Interoperability. Improve quality of health services Allocate resources effectively Monitor progress towards national objectives Strengthen the health care system. To achieve better utilization of expertise and resources.

Existing system vs Proposed system Existing system is manual, data are entered by data clerk manually. Proposed system,IQCARE installed and lay interoperability. GAPS Inadequate IT skills amongst the Clinicians Lack of proper infrastructure. Resistance to change by the health care employees. Proposed systems Costly at initiation

Developing program priority Identification of system needs. Analysis of the requirement Design of the interoperability architecture. Monitor and evaluate. System specification Hardware specification Software specification

Way forward To realize vision 2030 of the millennium development goals, interoperability to establish a connected health Community that connects, removes limitations and creates, opportunities for 21 st century physicians to realize their full potential is a must.
