Interoperability is a challenge to meeting business objectives. It requires sharing of knowledge, which should be built on a hierarchical system of ontologies. Multi-disciplinary interoperability solutions require a system-theoretical, architecture-centric approach, enabling the formalization of systems representation including ontology mapping.
