Candidates  Nomination process  Nomination kits

The Nomination Process - Overview  Contact EBC to request a nomination kit   Website  Government Agent office  Complete nomination booklet and appointment forms according to instructions  Submit application to EBC

The Nomination Process – Overview (cont’d)  The nomination application is reviewed:  Completeness  Legislative requirements met  e.g.: nominating voters reside in the ED  Receive certificate of candidacy  Cannot be issued until election is called  Candidate kit and voters lists issued after nominee officially becomes a candidate

Key Points - Nominations  Two choices when filing  Standing nomination (filed with CEO)  Ordinary nomination (filed with DEO)  Same documents used; difference is where documents are filed and when they are submitted  Standing nominations represent great opportunity:  Complete documentation early to prevent last minute errors/issues  Receive certificate early to begin issuing tax-receipts

Key Points - Nominations  Political party endorsements  Listing of endorsed candidates by ED  To be filed before 1 p.m. (Pacific time) on Day 10 at the CEO office  Must be signed by two registered officers of the political party*

Common Nominations Problems  Solemn declarations not completed  usual name, independent, declaration of qualification  Alternative service address not provided when requesting residential address obscuring  Service contact information missing  Consent to nomination signature missing  Mailing address used rather than residential address (PO Box not acceptable)  Not enough signatures collected  Signatures include voters not in electoral district

Nomination Kits  Each kit includes:  Nomination Booklet (320)  Appointment of Auditor (321)  Appointment of Financial Agent (325)  Appointment of Deputy Financial Agent (326) x 2  Appointment of Official Agent (327)  Guide to the Election Act (885)  Guide for Candidates (856)  Guide for Financial Agents (878)  Statement of Disclosure  Financial Disclosure Act Fact Sheet  Instructions on how to complete nomination documentation are included in the Nomination Booklet
