Presentation transcript:

Initiation: 1.Read the article from Berkeley on your desk. 2. On you Initiation/Termination Sheet -Explain the steps of the Scientific Method that you have learned from previous years of schooling. -Relate one thing you did over break to using the Scientific Method. -Hold on to your answer.

New Classroom Arrangement: -I want you to assume that you are sitting in desks every day unless I tell you otherwise. -Reason for desks: A general lack of focus on content and learning objectives. -You will use lab tables for activities that require lab tables.

Daily Objective: College Readiness Standards 1. Scientific Investigation Understand the methods and tools used in a moderately complex experiment. 2. Scientific Investigation Understand a simple experimental design.

Review Initiation Question: Scientific Method 1.Ask a Question 2.Do Background Research 3.Construct a Hypothesis 4.Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment 5.Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion 6.Communicate Your Results Give me a few examples of how you used the Scientific Method during your break.

Explore and Gains Scores: When analyzing your results, most students struggled with the questions having to do with the use of the Scientific Method. Most of you have it memorized. We actually need to walk you through the steps so that we can answer these questions correctly on your standardized tests.

2 Areas that We Need to FOCUS on. 1. Scientific Inquiry (Questioning) and Research 2.Skills Based Learning Activities

Scientific Inquiry (Questioning) and Research – My job as your teacher is to teach you to do this effectively and independently. Scientific Inquiry You hear the word inquiry a lot, but what does it mean? What does it mean when you inquire about something? What is Scientific Inquiry? Research What does it mean to do research on something? How do you research something?

Skills Based Learning Activities: The learning activities that you do in this class are designed to help you to answer any questions you may have about the concept that you have been researching and to reinforce what you are learning. Activities are very important whether they are in the form of a lab using the proper safety procedures or in working in groups to design a data table from a lab.

Termination: Recap of year so far: Explain one of the concepts that we have learned this year and tell me why it is important to know this concept for your future. Why do we need to be constantly thinking about the concepts that we have learned in the past few months?

Homework: Binder due for Binder Check on Friday. Unit 3 Binder Check Form is on Internet.
