What is Hyperbole? Hyperbole is: Used to create emphasis Used to evoke strong feelings or to create strong impression Is not meant to be taken literally.
Most Importantly… Hyperbole contains statements that are exaggerated. To identify hyperbole, look for exaggeration.

Some Examples… He has a brain the size of a pea. I’m so hungry I could eat a horse. If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times.
More Examples… She is one-hundred feet tall. I nearly died laughing! My dad is going to kill me if I don’t get an “A” on my report card!

Tall Tale! We’re going to read a tall tale called “Thunder Rose” in our Reading textbooks. While we’re reading, try to find examples of hyperbole (exaggeration) that make this a tall tale, and furthermore, an example of hyperbole.
