Geological Features of Lakes  Oligotrophic lakes have less surface area relative to depth than eutrophic lakes.  Oligotrophic lakes make become more eutrophic was time goes by because of runoff. Nutrients get added to the lake.

Geological Features of Streams and Rivers  Streams are mostly narrow and have a rocky bottom.  Rivers are mostly wide and meandering. River bottoms are often silty from sediments dumped over a period of time.

Photosynthic Organisms Lakes  Rooted and floating aquatic plants live in the littoral zone, the shallow, well lighted waters close to shore.  The Limnetic Zone is farther from shore and supports plenty of Phytoplankton and Cyanobacteria. Streams and Rivers  Head water streams may be full of algae or rooted aquatic plants.  Most material and food in forest streams comes from terrestrial vegetation off of land trees and plants.

Types of Animals Lakes In the limnetic zone, small drifting animals, or zooplankton graze on phytoplankton. In the benthic zone there are a variety of invertebrate animals. Fishes live in all zones in lakes with oxygen. Streams and Rivers A great diversity of fish and invertebrates inhabit unpolluted rivers and streams, distributed according to, and throughout, the vertical zones.

Human impact on the Biome and what can be done to ensure the survival of our Biome Lakes  Pollution by runoff from fertilized land and dumping of municipal wastes leads to nutrient enrichment, which can produce algal blooms, oxygen depletion, and fish kills.  We as humans can build runoff blocks by rivers to block runoff and stop the killing of fish. Streams and Rivers   Municipal, agricultural, and industrial pollution all contribute to the killing of fish and small water animals. Damming also contributes by water shortages.   Humans can change this by building eco-friendly dams and stopping pollution from factories and farms.

 Some great rivers in the world.  Some of the great lakes in the world.
