Goal- Setting Guidelines

What is a goal?

Step 1. Understand Yourself  What do you do well?  What do you enjoy doing?  What are the most important things in your life?

Step 2. Make clear and specific goals  A goal should tell you exactly what you want and should be measurable.  Example: I want to score ten goals in lacrosse this season.

Step 3: Make your goals positive  Say,” I want to lose 5 lbs by Christmas” rather than “I don’t want to be so fat. “

Step 4: Set Time Limits  Give yourself a reasonable deadline in which to accomplish your goal.

Step :5 Break long-term goals down into smaller parts  If your ultimate goal is to become a professional athlete, a realistic, specific short-term goal would be to make the varsity team for this season.

Step 6: Write down your goals  Keeping your written goals where you can see them will help you keep focused on achieving them.

Step 7: Check your progress  Evaluate your progress towards your goals. Are you doing what needs to be done to meet your goals? If not, what can you do to get yourself back on track.

DO NOW!  Write down one clear, specific, manageable goal for this coming week.. Be ready to share!
