Meet Rose

Rose lives in Rwanda

Rose is an orphan who lives in a small village near Kigali, Rwanda’s capital.

She lives in a house made out of mud and sticks with a tin roof. There are only three rooms in her home.

Her brother Fidele has brought her up and helps her with things like school work.

They were given a cow by Send a Cow and they now have the calf that she gave birth to.

Their cow gives them milk to drink and sell and manure to put on the crops.

They have to grow most of their own food and they use special gardens like this ‘Keyhole’ garden and bag gardens.

This plot of land is used to grow crops like sweetcorn on. Some of it is to eat and some to sell.

There is a lot of work to be done to keep the crops growing.

Rose also has to do lots of jobs, like collecting water from the well.

The cowshed has to be kept clean and swept.

When the jobs are done Rose loves playing games – just like any other children.

Rose is able to go to school thanks to the money from selling milk. So now she can look forward to getting a good job in the future.
