Name: Jessica Hardy Class Period: 7 th

Setting  The story takes place at home and at school. The house is where most of the story takes place and where most of the problems happen. The story is written as a journal entry so if she doesn’t write her entry she does it at school.

Characters  Tish: The main character of the story. Tish is the one who writes the book in the form of a journal entry for school. She doesn't let her teacher read any of her entrees. Tish is responsible because her mom left her and her little brother at home forever. Tish’s physical appearance is big brown hair and bangs.  Matt: Tish’s 8 year old brother who is a big cry baby, because he is always under his bed crying. Which makes he cowardly.

Characters (Continued)  Mrs.Dunphery: Tish’s teacher who loves to read Tish’s entrees when she gets the chance to, but Tish writes DON’T READ, MRS.DUNPHERY so she cant read it. But Mrs. Dunphery is caring to Tish and her brother Matt when they have no where to live.

Plot: Conflict  Tish’s mom found their dad who has been lost for a couple of years. But after he got home Tish’s mom and dad started fighting, and Tish’s dad left again but they don’t know where he went. But one morning Tish found a note from her mom saying that she will be out looking for her dad. But she wont be back, so Tish has to be the mom while her mom is gone an she has to pay for food and bills and it is really hard for her because they run out of money.

Plot: Resolution  In one journal entry Tish wrote to Mrs.Dunphery that she can read all the entrees that Tish said DONT READ. And of coarse she read them and Mrs. Dunphery took care of Matt and Tish until they found a foster family for them. But that they didn’t fin a family so they ended up living with theirs dads parents far away in Florida.

Your Opinion  The book for me was okay. At some points it got really boring but at other points it was really interesting. I thought that Tish was kind to her little brother which in my opinion was a sweet thing to do, because most brothers and sisters fight.

About the Author Margaret Peterson Haddix…  Wrote 3 series called The Missing, Shadow Children, And 39 Clues series.  Haddix grew up on a farm in Ohio.  Haddix has two children named Meredith and Connor.  She used to work as a code editor at a newspaper company.  Haddix went to collage at Miami University.

5 Test Questions 1. Why did all of the sudden did Tish decide to be bad and shoplift for the first time? 2. What were Tish’s mom and dad fighting about? 3. Why did Tish pull out her old afghan hound she was knitting? 4. Why didn’t Tish let Mrs.Dunphery read any of her entrees? 5. Why had Matt never told Tish that he has been wetting his bed?

Summary  Tish has to write a journal entry for Mrs. Dunphery’s and she doesn’t let her teacher read them because she has the chose to write READ or DON’T READ. In her journal she always writes about her hard life at home, but Mrs.Dunphery never know s about her hard life. It gets so bad at home that Tish finally lets Mrs.Dunphery read every entry that she told her not to read. After that Tish’s life got much better all because of the help of Mrs.Dunphery.
