Greener Living Contracting By Ryan Brooks

Greener Living Contracting is a private company whose specialty is to increase the efficiency of home and business utilities. We offer home owners the opportunity to save money on utility bills, or eliminate them altogether. Our improvements can help businesses boost their image of being environmentally friendly while keeping production expenses low.

Solar panel installation. High efficiency furnace installation. Air duct replacement and upgrade. Pipe insulation. Structural insulation. Electrical wiring upgrades. (X-10 system) Geothermal heating system installation. Wind turbine installation. (permit required)

The U.S. Government offers tax exemptions and credits for private citizens and businesses who own high efficiency utility equipment. A properly installed energy generating system, such as solar panels, or wind turbines, is permanently connected to the power grid and will continuously generate power. As a result, on days when usage does not exceed generating capacity, the meter will run backwards and the power company will pay you!

Our warehouse and office are located in Arnold Pennsylvania. All equipment is stored in the warehouse. Documents, bid proposals, business receipts, bills, tax documents and licenses are stored in paper form in filing cabinets at the main office. All paper documents are backed up on computer and stored on a computer at the home office. All digital information on the office computer is backed up on Carbonite. So all lost data is retrievable.

Our company’s home office uses a small private network consisting of two personal computers networked together via CAT-5 cable. Business Information is stored on 1TB hard drive that is shared by both computers. The most important output device that is used in this business is a printer, (for bid proposals, business cards, customer receipts, and material price listings.) Contractors use a lot of paper.

Finances are managed using Quicken Legal Business Pro – This program is used in place of spreadsheet and database for keeping track of all income and expenses. Microsoft word is used for creating formal business documents. Power Point is used for presentations. Web pages are designed using conventional software and are used for advertising purposes.

We are a small business, consisting of four employees. An electrician, who is responsible for wiring new circuits and improving existing circuitry. A plumber, who replaces, insulates and installs plumbing A carpenter, who makes necessary changes to structures that enable the accommodation of the new systems. And a laborer, who mainly carries heavy material and equipment because the other three don’t want to.

In most situations, a potential client is obtained when they contact our business line after viewing one of our advertisements. – Either on our website, in the phonebook, newspaper, or some other medium in which we choose to advertise. The client then asks us appraise the job and present a bid on how much the entire job will cost including time and material. If our bid is accepted we will schedule a date with the client to begin working.

Upon completion of the job the customer is presented with the bill and pays us with a check. Finally the customer is given a receipt, and a copy is also kept for our records. This receipt can be used by the customer to file for specific tax credits if they apply.

If a problem occurs during a job that we do not have the means to rectify, we can call several subcontractors that we can hire in order to help us fix the problem. – This is done at no additional cost to the client. We eat the expense, this helps to preserve our reputation. If the problem is unfixable, our company carries insurance that will reimburse the client for all damages. We also carry insurance on our own equipment. However, there is no insurance for reputation, and any mistakes that our company makes will undermine that reputation. – The only means that we have to protect our reputation is to make sure that we can do a job correctly before we bid it.
