Presentation transcript:

 Review Figurative Language & Repetition  “Song of the Skyloom”  Trickster Tales Notes  Turn In Notebooks

 Repetition is the use of words, phrases, or lines more than once in order to: reinforce ideas; create rhythm; make the text memorable; or give “power” to the language in the text  Figurative Language is the exaggerated use of words or phrases beyond their literal meanings in order to compare similar concepts or characters ◦ “Fleece white as snow”

1. Find repeated phrases in the song. List them and tell why they are repeated. Which function of repetition does it serve? 2. What do you imagine the singers look like as they sing? 3. Identify and list uses of figurative language. What makes it figurative? 4. What general feeling does the song express about nature and the universe?

 Trickster Tales are folk tales (stories told by word of mouth from generation to generation) that feature an animal or human character that engages in deceit, violence, and magic. Trickster tales often explain features of the world. ◦ A trickster may appear in any one of three roles: a culture hero; a clever deceiver; or a numbskull

 While reading, make sure to write down examples of: mysteries of nature that are explained; the social values taught through the characters and situations; and details that reveal aspects of Okanogan culture.
