The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod Heather Brewer Raj Desai

Bad Boy? Text: “What do you want from me? but his attacker didn’t answer. John swung his arms behind him to knock the man down. But his hands were caught effortlessly in the air and bound behind him. A hand gloved in shiny black leather entered his field of vision clutching a torn page from the Bathory Gazette. John’s head jerked back as the man gave his hair a violent tug and growled. where is he” ( Brewer 3) Explanation: The quote shows us that the “boy” is in danger. It starts us off with action and a bit of suspense. It glues us into the book, right away. We want to know what did this “boy” do that made this man so angry.

Anyone Hungry? Text: “Vlad left his bedroom and made his way down the stairs. Aunt Nelly stood at the bottom holding up a plastic container covered with Saran Wrap. He could see the deep red, slushy contents through the wrap and licked his lips. Did you microwave it? Its better warm.” (Brewer 6) Explanation: This shows that Vlad is a vampire. “the deep red, slushy contents”, is the blood. He drinks/eats blood everyday. His Aunt, Nelly, is a nurse so she brings a bag of blood for him.

Understanding History Text: “By the tenth box they’d discovered several photo albums, two small velvet boxes containing his parents wedding bands and a leather bound book with strange symbol on the front held securely in place by thick leather straps and two brass locks.” (Brewer 24) Explanation: In this scene, Vlad finds a book with weird symbols and words on it. That book happens to be his father. He starts to read about the book which makes Vlad learn more about being a Vampire.

Odd Substitute Teacher Text: “Good morning class, I’m Mr. Otis and I will be substituting for Mr. Craig during his absence.” (Brewer 34) Explanation: Mr. Otis and Vlad have a very unusual relation. Later Mr. Otis finds out about Vlad being a Vampire. Knowing that he went to his house and told them that he too is a vampire and something else that is important.

Battle Begins Text: “He’s taken her.” “The meaning of his words hadn’t settled in Vlad’s mind before Otis was down the stairs and running toward the front door. Vlad bolted after him calling to his aunt. When he reached the door he found Otis slumped against the door jamb looking out into the darkness. Vlad swallowed hard.” “Where is she?” “He’s taken her to Elysia, no doubt as bait for you.” (Brewer 145) Explanation: Vlad and his uncle, Mr. Otis, are hiding from a man named D’Ablo. They made Aunt Nelly to make him go but something terrible happens. D’Ablo takes Aunt Nelly away. So this starts a big fight between Vlad and D’Ablo. Will Vlad save Aunt Nelly or will he loose her forever?
